Maggie Pickwick is a lifetime away from her days as head cheerleader and the mistakes she made in high school. Twelve years later, this single mom has traded pompoms for an auctioneer’s gavel, popularity for peace and quiet, and strives to be a good example for her daughter, Devyn. She’s keeping it together just fine, too—until an old flame moves back to her little North Carolina town.

Renowned artist Reece Thorpe wants nothing to do with Maggie—not after what she did in high school—but he might also be Devyn’s father. Driven by her own pride and fear for her daughter’s happiness, Maggie finds herself on a slippery slope of white lies as she attempts to convince Reece that she’s changed. But the truth has a way of making itself known, and now Maggie’s past and present mistakes could ruin her chance at love.

NOWHERE CAROLINA A Contemporary Romance Southern Discomfort Book 2 edition by Tamara Leigh Religion Spirituality eBooks

You must read Leaving Carolina, book 1, before this to already have some background knowledge of Maggie and the continuing story of Uncle Obie. I felt this one was deeper as Maggie struggles to do what's right while wanting to keep her secret shame in the past. At one point I felt frustration that she spent so much effort trying to keep the inevitable truth from coming out. I would love to say the story was wrapped up in a neat bow the way I was hoping. However I accepted the realistic but still satisfying way it ended.

NOWHERE CAROLINA A Contemporary Romance Southern Discomfort Book 2 edition by Tamara Leigh Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews

In the second book of the Southern Discomfort series, the story features Piper Pickwick's cousin Maggie Pickwick and her struggle to deal with the the mistakes that she made in her teenage years, and her determination to correct them by finding her daughter's father. Maggie's journey of self discovery, self forgiveness and moving forward is an inspirational story that will touch your heart. This is a story of romance, forgiveness, redemption and freedom born of truth ... and definitely was my favorite book in the series.
I've been a reader of Tamara Leigh's Christian fiction for a few years now, and I can say that she hasn't lost her writing edge yet.

This book is the second of the Southern Discomfort series, the first being Leaving Carolina and the third to come out soon (hopefully). Although I recommend Leaving Carolina since it is a marvelous book, it's not necessary since the plot of this book is based on a new character and Tamara Leigh fills you in on necessary details from the first book.

Maggie Pickwick and her daughter Devyn are each trying to cope with life as they know it in Pickwick, North Carolina--a bonafide Southern town where your past stays with you and no one is going to let you forget it. Maggie (the real focus of the book) is an auctioneer trying to make ends meet as a single mom who's learned her lessons the hard way, but with God's help has learned to overcome her past indiscretions and forgive herself. Or so she thought, before a handsome artist from her past comes to town. Around the same time, her preteen Devyn starts to question just who her father is. Maggie can't answer that question, but she knows that something must be done about Devyn's curiosity and the sculptor's presence before dots are connected in a way Maggie and her faith aren't ready for...

Maggie herself is a plucky heroine and the book is full of enough humor, squirming-uncomfortable scenes, heartfelt faith growth, and love to keep any chick-lit lover turning pages and feeling for Maggie in all her dilemmas. Although it's not my favorite book by this author (which is Splitting Harriet), it's still miles above a lot of the other books I've seen out there. Don't pass this one up!
Series was interesting; very wordy but the NC area descriptions were spot on. Liked the way the plots involve all the main characters throughout the three novels.
I really enjoyed the first book of this series, but I was totally wrapped up in this second installment. So many poignant moments, yet equally laugh out loud hilarity! I am downloading #3 immediately! I promise you that you will be happy you that you did.
I thoroughly enjoyed Tamara Leigh's medieval series so was not sure I would like a contemporary setting. When I realized it was in first person I was not happy because I enjoy stories with different POVs. However, I am so enjoying this series due to the hilarious self talk of the main character as well as the excellent story line of the Pickwick family. The fact I understand Southern is fun, too.
I was introduced to Tamara Leigh's stories through her inspirational and "cleaned" medieval romance adventures. She is a gifted storyteller. Her plots are exciting and full of adventure and very warm, but clean romance. I enjoyed her medieval romances so much I was reluctant to invest in her contemporary stories. Then I read Stealing Adda. I loved/love that story. She added humor that made me laugh out loud numerous times, and now Nowhere' Carolina has joined my Tamara Leigh collection of favorite, to be read again, novels. The running dialogue her characters have with God about their issues and relationships are probably as amusing I'm sure to God, as they are to her readers. It was nice to recognize and to be reminded of how faithful God is even when we're arguing with Him and refusing His counsel.
Not only the story line, but the artful way in which it is delivered, kept me reading to the end and yearning for more. Tamara Leigh's writing is a prime example of why I favor first person narratives. Early in Book #1, the character of Piper became real to me, and I couldn't wait to hear more from her. I was a bit disappointed to realize this one is nor narrated by Piper but by her cousin, Maggie. My disappointment was quickly forgotten, however, as I soon appreciated Ms. Leigh's genius in allowing her readers a personal glimpse into the differing personalities and philosophies between these Pickwick women! I am currently reading the third in the series, narrated by yet another cousin, and each journey has been a pleasure.
You must read Leaving Carolina, book 1, before this to already have some background knowledge of Maggie and the continuing story of Uncle Obie.
