Haunted and the Haunters eBook Edward BulwerLytton
Classic Victorian ghost story. A disbeliever decides to spend the night in a haunted house. These days it seems that ghosts have to kill and hurt people to make their stories interesting. I have wondered when ghosts became so corporal that they could inflict physical injury. The old classics recognize that the terror of seeing the unknown, hearing things, and experiencing the terror is what terrorizes people.Product details

Haunted and the Haunters eBook Edward BulwerLytton Reviews
This is an interesting and largely forgotten Victorian ghost story. Sometimes, when reading a 19th century literature, you forget it was written so long ago; that is not the case here. Not that that's a bad thing. The story begins in a somewhat banal fashion, but does pay off in the end. I was very pleasantly surprised at the alchemical implications that were snuck in later in the novel.
This books title tricked me! For some reason, I thought this book would have ghost stories in it. Boy was l very wrong! Instead, the book goes all metaphysical. Could of done without all that...
If you are looking for scare your pants off stories or blood and gore, this book will not be for you. However, if you like the good old-fashioned ghost stories you will enjoy the stories from the various authors contained in this book. Some are quite predictable only because they have been retold in similar was since the book was written. Overall it was a good read for a quiet time when you just kind of want to turn your brain off, have a nice glass of wine and enjoy a story without having to think to hard about it.
steady, suspenseful story that just keeps building and building right to the end... I kept thinking it was being predictable, but I was always wrong!!
I think I have read nearly the entire works of Bulwer Litton. He writes well and always finds interesting backwaters of cultural eddies to write about. [try Zanoni!!! Or Pompeii] this book is limited in its scope, rather more like a long short story or a novella. It delves into the dark nether world of ghosts, demons and other spirits, and the thinly veiled distance between that stuff and our everyday lives. I regret that he felt compelled to kill off the lovel pet dog! But things get sorted out at the end and life can now proceed accordingly.
