I love it
I got a bad download of this book, if I try to open it, my won't work for something like two weeks. I have a HP touchpad with Beta, I don't think there is a way for me to delete a downloaded book. A standard reader has this option.

I was thrilled that George Barton's pioneering work of 726 pages, is digitally reproduced, and recently made available (April 2009), through images created by University of Michigan University Library's reformatting program, which helps to preserve the content of such original books that preserves and promotes its intellectual impact, almost since it was published nine decades ago. I heard and later read the parallels of ancient Egyptian moral and social philosophy in James H. Breasted's, "The dawn of conscience".
Egyptian Popular Wisdom
The story of the Eloquent Peasant, is a vivid illustration of Ancient Egyptian social justice. A simple citizen Khun-Anup, a peasant who lived in Arsenoe in lower middle Egypt, four thousands years ago, and who strove unceasingly to obtain justice. This story was very popular in the ancient Egypt, and captured the imagination of Egyptologists and studied by sociologists. James H. Breasted's account is most fascinating even more than the original of, "The Tale of the Eloquent Peasant."A remarkable appreciation of the rights of the common people is revealed in this story, which has come down to us in copies made before 1800 B.C." Creation narrative and the Flood
While there are some similarities between the Babylonian creation account, and those in the book of Genesis, some Bible scholars declared at the time that, "the text written by Moses is incomparably superior to the Enuma elish documents." In 1853 Hormuzd Rassam, an archaeologist, was excavating the site of ancient Nineveh, when he made one of the most important archaeological finds of the century. He discovered the palace of Assurbanipal, the last of Assyria's great rulers. Assurbanipal had assembled a vast library of clay tablets, "... brought together, containing historical, scientific, and religious literature, ..., business documents and letters"
In 1872, George Smith, a curator at the British Museum, announced that among the tablets, he had discovered the Babylonian accounts of both the Creation narrative and the Flood. The Creation epic is contained on seven clay tablets containing a total of about 1,000 lines of text. It is called Enuma elish, taken from the first words of the text "Time was, when above heaven was not named ..." Other fragments of the same epic were found at Ashur, Kish, and Uruk. Scholars believe that this creation narrative probably extends all the way back to the time of Hammurabi (18th Century B.C.).
Song of Solomon
The religious allegory recounting God's love for israel, enabled the canticles to become sacred scripture. Mesopotamian ritual of marriage make precedent, and those on (pp. 413-416)of the amazing book, comparing their style to ancient Egyptian Love Songs!

Dr. George A. Barton, professor of Semitic languages at the University of Pennsylvania, was recognized as an expert in biblical archaeology, and served as director of the American School of Oriental Research in Jerusalem. His pioneering massive volume, Archaeology And The Bible, first published in 1916, is just unblievable to be two decades ahead even of J. Breasted.
